![]() ![]() It’s incredibly satisfying from the low-fi design, sound design, level design, really everything you could want in a “heres all the pieces, now get to the ending” kind of game like this. If you are a fan of DOOM (new and old) or the old Duke Nukem games then you will definitely love this one.įor more quality reviews like this, follow our curator page, Summit Reviews. This is the best modern boomer shooter hands down. This game is pretty great satisfying gameplay, good visual art style, awesome soundtrack and the ability to play and create community maps/levels/campaigns is fantastic, which will prolong the game’s lifespan. There are 24 levels to explore and 4 trials to speedrun, it took me 10 hours to complete. Yes (you have to be online to play community maps) Andrew Hulshult did a very good job with this one, and he should be commended for it. The soundtrack fits so well with the game’s atmosphere it’s chaotic, brutal, gory and increases the intensity while fighting hordes of monsters. Prodeus has great heavy metal music, created by Andrew Hulshult, the same composer of Dusk and Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 1. The game worked well and ran beautifully. You will be able to customize your HUD to your liking, or completely disable it. You can even change enemy models, either 3D or pixelated sprites. You can pick your own Virtual Resolution Style, such as pixelated and CRT. ![]() The game has a unique art style, as it mixes old-school graphics with modern visuals, very similar to the Brutal Doom mod. It also shows you the items and other pickups as well, such as health, armor packs, weapons and gold. Like DOOM, there’s an automap pickup that you have to find, which allows you to view the whole map and your current position in it. There are also secrets that you have to watch out for, like camouflaged caves and hidden passages, so keep your eyes peeled. Not sure if the campaign mentions where it takes place, but the locations are basically hell on earth, so you’ll find molten lava and smoke everywhere, portals, futuristic buildings in ruin, alien technology and so on. Almost 2 years later and I still don’t know much about the story itself, which I personally don’t care about the gameplay is fun and that’s what matters when it comes to classic FPS games. You play as a powerful agent of Prodeus, and you aim to seek flesh and bone, and destroy your creator and everyone that gets in your way. Only one campaign is available, called The Kingdom Between. ✔️ Amazing visuals, with various graphic settings that you can tinker with. ✔️ Has a level editor, very similar to DOOM’s snapmap. ✔️ Fast paced gameplay, with multiple weapons to choose from and upgrades to earn. 2020 as an “Early Access” game and a final full release 2 years later. The Kickstarter campaign began back in 2019, released on Steam Nov. ![]() Prodeus is a classic 1990s first-person shooter where you battle various zombies and demons in a hellish world. If you do want to play with your buddies, then you can tinker with the settings to make the game more difficult. As for co-op, you can play with your friends (16 players max) the main campaign and community maps. I believe they added it last year right off the bat, the multiplayer is dead on arrival. That being said, you have to own an account in order to play them, and it would take you a few seconds to create one in-game. It gives the game more replay value, and it’s interesting to see what the community can come up with. You can create your own level/campaign using the level editor from scratch, and other people will be able to play it as well, and vice versa. They also have secondary fire modes you can charge a laser rifle to fire one powerful beam, and charge the shotgun to release a flaming slug. Every weapon feels unique with its design, reloading animation and crisp sound effects. Other than your fists, there are a total of 13 weapons in the campaign, such as a rocket launcher and a plasma rifle, and you can feel their impact on enemies. You can replay campaign missions and speedrun them as well, since all of them are timed, and you can compare your scores with your friends/other players worldwide. There are also 4 trials that you can play using specific weapons (speedrun in less than a minute and you will be rewarded with gold). Some levels are locked and can only be accessed once you obtain a certain amount of runes, which you have to collect from previous levels. For the first few levels, you will encounter slow-moving zombies, but don’t be discouraged as you will encounter faster and more difficult enemies as you progress. A pistol is your starting weapon, and you get new weapons as you progress through the campaign, or buy new ones from the shop using gold that are hidden throughout the levels. ![]()
